Como Avenue kitchen renovation

Project Brief

DAME Build completed an extensive entire home renovation project at Como Avenue, Surrey Hills. The scope of work included a complete interior re-model, which involved design work for all areas of the home, construction of a new walk-in butler’s pantry, larger laundry, new main and central bathroom, as well as a new ensuite. We also can’t forget the dream wine cellar. This project was full of luxury materials along with well thought out electrical work, plumbing, flooring, painting and installation of new windows and doors throughout the home.

Client Brief

Our client’s vision was to create a space to call their forever home. Using the existing foundations of the build to transform it into luxury modernism, fully functionally for a large family, and with aesthetics that they truly loved. The main focus was the kitchen, to be able to entertain for family events was the main goal for our clients. Another main focus was to create a timeless wine cellar for their impressive collection. Creating clean lines and a soft colour pallet with pops of colour was essential for this home.

Design Stage

The project started with an extensive design phase, where the team at DAME Build took careful details of each aspect of the renovation. We worked closely with our clients to ensure they were receiving the exact design that they envisioned for their forever home. Making sure we ticked every requirement and providing the small details that would count later. The design fee covered the meticulous planning for the entire home which included, flooring, paint selections, two bathrooms, a kitchen, laundry and wine cellar.

Kitchen and Butler’s Pantry Renovation

The kitchen renovation was approached with meticulous attention to detail, with a strong focus on both functionality and aesthetic appeal. A sophisticated two-tone cabinetry scheme was selected, featuring Laminex Rual Oak in a Natural Finish paired with White 200 in a Natural Finish. The benchtops were crafted from Bianco Superiore Quartzite, adding an elegant and timeless touch to the overall design. Premium hardware from Blum was incorporated throughout both the kitchen and the butler’s pantry, ensuring seamless functionality with features such as soft-closing drawers, pull-down mechanisms in the overhead cabinetry. High-end Miele appliances including ovens, a dishwasher, and a large refrigerator were selected to complement the space, making it truly a chef’s dream.

Wine Cellar Renovation

The creation of this bespoke wine cellar was approached with the utmost precision and care, particularly in the realms of engineering, structural integrity, and climate control. Every detail was meticulously considered to accommodate the client’s extensive and truly remarkable wine collection. Collaborating closely with the clients, the design team at DAME Build ensured that the cellar would serve as a quiet yet striking centrepiece of the home. The brief was clear: sophistication without excess, something that would captivate, yet remain understated. This vision came to life through the use of tinted black glass, offering just a glimpse of the collection within, paired with elegant floor-to-ceiling LED lighting to enhance the sense of quiet luxury. To maintain optimal conditions for preservation, tall, weighty doors were installed to effectively contain the cellar’s custom air-conditioning system, ensuring every bottle is stored at its ideal temperature. The result is a seamless integration of design and functionality, an architectural feature that speaks to refined taste and meticulous planning.

Laundry Renovation

What began as a simple brief, to create a larger, more functional laundry renovation , evolved into a beautifully executed transformation that prioritises efficiency, storage, and long-term practicality. In response to the client’s needs, structural walls were strategically repositioned to expand the space and maximise its utility.

The new layout features full-height linen closets, offering generous storage from floor to ceiling. A long, uninterrupted benchtop provides ample space for folding, while custom cabinetry elevates the washer and dryer for ergonomic ease. Beneath each appliance, trays were integrated to conveniently hold laundry baskets, and drawers were incorporated to neatly house washing powders, detergents, and other essentials. Storage was a key consideration in every element of the design. Overhead cabinetry above the appliances ensures no space goes unused, while the broom cupboard was given equal attention to detail, with internal power points for vacuum chargers and dedicated hooks to keep mops and cleaning tools neatly organised. The result is a high-functioning, elegant laundry space that exceeds everyday expectations, combining practicality with polished design for a room that truly works as hard as it looks.

Main Bathroom Renovations

The vision for the main bathroom was to create a space that balanced everyday functionality with a refined aesthetic, designed to comfortably serve both the homeowners and their guests. Every element was carefully curated to reflect thoughtful design, luxurious materials, and enduring elegance.

Floor-to-ceiling tiling throughout the space, paired with large-format porcelain panels from National Tiles, draws attention to the impressive ceiling height while creating a seamless, contemporary finish. A custom vanity, crafted from the same porcelain material as the feature wall and complemented by Laminex’s Aged Walnut finish, anchors the space with a sense of understated luxury. Premium tapware and accessories from Rogerseller, ranging from wall mixers to shower arms, heads, and mixers enhance the bathroom’s sophisticated detailing and functionality. Subtle yet striking, the bright white basin and freestanding bathtub by Claybrook serve as elegant focal points, gently illuminating the room with their crisp finishes.

To complete the ambiance, LED lighting was discreetly installed within the shower niche, casting a warm glow that enhances the space’s serenity, particularly during evening use. This main bathroom is a thoughtful fusion of beauty and purpose, crafted to be as impressive as it is practical.

Ensuite Bathroom Renovations

The master ensuite was envisioned as a contemporary sanctuary blending modern design principles with luxurious, high-end finishes to create a space that is both functional and enduring. The clients’ brief called for a bathroom that would stand the test of time in both style and practicality, with ample storage and thoughtful detailing throughout.

To meet this vision, large-format tiles were installed from floor to ceiling, emphasising the room’s generous height and contributing to its clean, streamlined aesthetic. A striking porcelain panel from AC Stone serves as a feature wall, offering a luminous focal point that elevates the space with its sculptural presence. This same material is thoughtfully integrated into the custom vanity, which is further enriched by Laminex’s Aged Walnut finish, bringing warmth and contrast to the design. Luxury fittings from Rogerseller are featured throughout, including wall mixers, shower arms, and showerheads, offering consistency in both quality and design. Dual Claybrook basins provide a refined “his and hers” setup, blending seamlessly with the overall palette while adding a subtle sculptural element. A concealed smart toilet enhances the space’s sense of modernity and ease, offering hygienic functionality within a minimalist form. Every aspect of this master ensuite has been carefully considered, resulting in a refined and serene retreat that harmoniously balances comfort, technology, and timeless style.

Home Improvements

Additional works included electrical work, such as downlights, power points, solar panels and upgraded the power board to ensure optimal lighting and convenience. We installed new Ironbark flooring throughout the home as well as warm carpet in the bedrooms, this instantly improved the home. Painting was also carried out throughout the home, we ensured that the colour scheme stayed consistent. New windows and sliding doors were added into the home to produce better energy and lighting especially in the main living room.
