Project Brief
DAME Build recently completed an extensive medical fitout for Step Relief Healthcare in Maribyrnong, showcasing our expertise in creating functional and aesthetically pleasing healthcare fitout spaces. This commercial fitout project involved transforming an empty space into a cutting-edge podiatry centre designed to meet the specific needs of the client and their patients.
Client Brief
Step Relief Healthcare approached DAME Build with a vision for a modern, efficient, and welcoming podiatry facility. Starting with a blank canvas, their requirements included multiple consultation rooms, a welcoming reception and waiting area, accessibility features, climate control, and comprehensive electrical and plumbing systems. Our team worked closely with the client to understand their needs and translate them into a practical and visually appealing design tailored for podiatry services.
Design Stage
The design process for this podiatry fitout focused on creating a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetics from the ground up. Key design elements included spatial planning to create an optimal layout for efficient patient flow and staff movement, a carefully selected colour scheme to create a soothing environment, a mix of natural and artificial lighting to enhance the overall ambiance, and the selection of durable, easy-to-clean materials suitable for a podiatry healthcare environment.
Structural Work
The fitout began with significant structural work, including the construction of partition walls with proper insulation and plastering, installation of six Ezy Jamb door frames with high-quality hardware, and the implementation of a central air conditioning system for optimal climate control, essential for patient comfort during podiatry treatments.
Flooring and Finishes
To create a hygienic and visually appealing environment suitable for podiatry services, we installed vinyl flooring throughout the facility, with coved edges in key areas for easy cleaning. This flooring choice is particularly important in a podiatry setting where foot hygiene is paramount. Commercial-grade aluminum skirting boards were applied, and thorough caulking was conducted to ensure a seamless finish.
Custom Cabinetry
Our team designed and installed custom cabinetry for various areas, including bespoke cabinets for Office 1 and Office 2, specialised cabinetry for the Sterilisation Room, and a custom-designed Manhattan Reception Desk to create a professional first impression. The cabinetry was designed with podiatry-specific storage needs in mind, accommodating specialised equipment and supplies.
Plumbing and Electrical
Comprehensive plumbing and electrical systems were installed. This included the installation of sinks and taps in the Sterilisation Room and office areas, extensive electrical work encompassing new lighting fixtures, power points, and exhaust fans, as well as plumbing to accommodate the specific needs of podiatry treatment rooms.
Accessibility Features
To ensure compliance with disability access requirements and to cater to patients with mobility issues often seen in podiatry practices, we installed grab rails in the accessible toilet, added appropriate signage, fitted a door closer and accessible door handle, mounted a disability-compliant mirror, and constructed a ramp at the front entrance.
Podiatry Treatment Rooms Fitout
The podiatry fitout included specialised treatment rooms designed for optimal foot and lower limb care. These rooms feature durable, easy-to-clean surfaces, adequate lighting for detailed examinations, and ample space for podiatry chairs and equipment. The layout ensures patient privacy and comfort during treatments.
Sterilisation Room Fitout
Special attention was given to the Sterilisation Room, a critical area in any podiatry facility. This included custom-designed cabinetry for efficient storage and workflow of podiatry instruments, installation of a double-bowl sink with specialized taps, and coved vinyl flooring for enhanced hygiene.
