Project Brief
DAME Build completed a comprehensive residential fitout, in Mitcham, reconfiguring both the main bathroom and ensuite while introducing a new walk-in wardrobe. Beyond surface upgrades, the project involved targeted demolition, structural reinforcement, and the realignment of plumbing and electrical systems.
Client Brief
This bathroom renovation project required more than surface upgrades. The homeowners requested a larger main bathroom to feature a bathtub as well as a new walk-in wardrobe to enhance storage and organisation. The ensuite was to feel spacious yet carefully considered, featuring a wet zone for practicality while ensuring ease of movement.
Before
Design Stage
The design process was both structured and collaborative. Material selections were explored through samples and spatial mock-ups, enabling the homeowners to make confident, informed decisions at each stage. DAME Build strived to achieve a modern polish by utilising a restrained colour palette, clean lines, and floating joinery, while also incorporating subtle curves to add softness and warmth. Ultimately, the goal was to rebuild the bathrooms to be serene, cohesive, and visually harmonious, where every material, fixture, and spatial decision reinforces a sense of refined minimalism.
Structural Transformation
Before beauty, there was demolition. The project began with a full strip-back of both bathrooms and adjoining areas, reducing the spaces to their raw framework. Ceiling cavities were opened to accommodate updated lighting and ventilation, and plumbing and electrical systems were realigned to serve the new layout efficiently. Vertical windows above the head were strategically integrated to flood the shower and bathtub areas with natural light, enhancing the sense of openness while maintaining privacy. These changes laid the foundation for both functional performance and refined aesthetics. The room structure was changed as seen in the demolition plans above to accomodate for the larger bathroom and the new wardrobe.
Master Ensuite Bathroom Renovation
The ensuite, though compact, was carefully arranged to ensure ventilation, comfort, and a sense of openness. Frameless Stela glass panels with discreet black wall channels define the wet area, emphasizing uninterrupted surfaces. A recessed black linear drain integrates seamlessly with the National Tiles Concrete Fusion Sand Matt tiles on floors and walls, while ledge walls replace traditional niches, providing clean, unobtrusive storage for toiletries, candles, and decorative accents.
The floating Briony wall-hung shaving cabinet with subtly curved edges is paired with a white Bella Vista Riva stone basin and wall-mounted tapware, complementing the Mica Wall Spout Combo Straight Spout. The Mica Shower System, featuring dual mixers, a handheld shower, and a curved wall-mounted arm, is recessed into the wall for visual lightness. The rimless Geberit Sigma8 Inwall Concealed Cistern allows the toilet pan to float, reinforcing a minimalist and elegant aesthetic.
Main Bathroom Renovation
The main bathroom, forming the counterpoint to the ensuite, functions as both a retreat and ritual space. Its centerpiece, the Ovia Artemis fluted freestanding bathtub, introduces rhythm and sculptural interest. At the same time, ledge walls within the shower and bath area continue the discreet storage strategy, allowing space for toiletries and decorative items without interrupting clean lines.
The cabinetry, shower system, wall spout, and in-wall toilet system mirror those used in the ensuite, reinforce visual continuity, and create a minimalist aesthetic. Wall-mounted basin tapware complements the separate shower and handheld fixtures, reducing clutter and enhancing ease of maintenance. Large linear shower drains improve water flow, top-mount basins add definition, and frameless shower screens visually expand the space, maintaining cohesion between the main bath and ensuite. Matte black Mica hardware punctuates the subdued tile backdrop, providing subtle contrast while supporting the suite’s elegant, modern, and highly functional design.
Walk-in Wardrobe
The reframing of the walls created space for a walk-in wardrobe within the main bathroom. This intentional addition was thoughtfully planned and implemented. Custom cabinetry was designed to maximise storage space, featuring symmetrical modules, concealed hardware, and finishes that align visually with the bathroom's colour palette, ensuring a cohesive overall design.
By the end of the intensive five-week project, the homeowners were delighted with the bathrooms' transformation, which created a tranquil and practical environment for their big family. Every detail from the soft curves of the vanities and the sculptural fluted bathtub to the seamless tiling, in-wall storage, layered lighting, and new wardrobe contributes to a cohesive, refined aesthetic that balances elegance and functionality.
